Default Cowl Vent keeps falling

I have a 48 sedan, when I got the car, there was a cotter pin going through the middle pivot. I replace that with a 1/4" bolt and nylock nut with slight tension on the bolt. Also the one rod was not connected to the back of the radio, so I connected that as well. But while driving it still falls. I read a few other threads about different model years that there is a spring, mine does not have one, is there supposed to be one?

I believe there should be wave washesr on the bolts that put constant tension on the pivots. At least that's how my '41 is assembled

My guess is you are missing that small spring that keeps tension on the lid mechanism.

cmbruce, In the attachment you sent on the cowl vent kit I notice it is for a 1940 Ford. Aren't the controls the same for other years such as 1941-1948 ?

Joe
I believe lots of cars and trucks use similar arrangements.

Thanks, Bruce. I was going to print and save the instructions but I have a 1941. So, I will print.
