48 Sedan Trim Removal
I'm wondering how to remove the stainless trim all down the sides and hood. Are the clips the style you pry at the bottom and lift up?

Re: 48 Sedan Trim Removal
believe 41-48 are the same, a wire spring clip. check inside the hood. I put a bit of grease on the wire ends inside , to help them come out, and use a 1" scraper and slip it up under the chrome. Once one is out they come along fairly easy. On '41's the chrome wraps around the rear edge of the hood so I start at the front.

Re: 48 Sedan Trim Removal
Be careful and check to see that the ends are not held on with T bolt type fasteners. More than once I have found that to be the case.

Apply tape to the 1 inch scraper blade to avoid paint damage.

Check the door, there may be a T bolt at each end besides the push ins. Same for the rear quarter trim. Not sure about the fenders. You have to remove the upholstery to check for TBolts

Re: 48 Sedan Trim Removal
Same as Paul on my '46 "T" bolts with nuts. Don't pry them or you will damage the Stainless Steel trim. All the trim on the fenders also has bolts.

Re: 48 Sedan Trim Removal
Chappy, if you open the hood can't you see several nuts on each side where the SS strips are?

Re: 48 Sedan Trim Removal
I know it is not the same a '48 but I just pulled all the trim off a '46 Tudor this fall. On that particular car, which never had the trim off before this is what I found:
- All four fender trim strips were held on with t-bolts and nuts exclusively. - The hood had a t-bolt on each end of the strip with spring clips in all other holes - The cowl strips were only held on with spring clips - The door strips were held on with spring clips - I cannot remember here if there was a t-bolt on the leading end or not, sorry. - The rear quarter strips where held on by three t-bolts in a row on the trailing end which I accessed through the trunk. Spring clips were used in the rest of the mounting holes including the leading end. I hope this info is of value to you. |
