31 running board trim
I am getting ready to work on my 31 coupe running boards. The trim on the car is flat with two ridges and it is held on the board with screws. I have seen this on other cars and am wondering if it is some after market trim from years ago. See the pictures. I have the newer trim pieces but am tempted to just reuse the what is on the car. I cannot find any replacement trim matching what is on the car. Thank you in advance for any thoughts.

Re: 31 running board trim
The screws don't belong, but if you want to reuse the trim just do it, and most people won't notice or care about the screws.

Re: 31 running board trim
Thanks Tom. Please note that if the screws were not there then there is nothing to hold this type trim on the board - it does not extend past the bottom edge of the board and the top is simply a small lip that covers the top of the board edge. The trim reminds me of 1950 era counter top edge molding.

Re: 31 running board trim
Original trim would fold over the top and bottom lip, so no screws would be needed.

Re: 31 running board trim
Thank you for the pictures Mike - I do have a repro set of the correct 1931 trim like you show. I was curious as to why my car had the "counter top" type trim as James suggests which I have seen in pictures of six or eight other cars and thought maybe someone here may know something about it. Thanks to all for your thoughts!

Re: 31 running board trim
The trim in the photos is not the original zinc trim. No screws were originally used to secure the trim. The reproduction running board trim is like the original.

Re: 31 running board trim
Thanks Bob - I agree! Thanks Dick - I have a good set of repro trim I bought for another 31 about 18 years ago so I am set. I will file the number for future reference.
