46 F/H oil pan removal
I am in the process of bringing back a 46 with F/head
Have front body off frame, all bolts removed, steering arms removed. Have turned crank around through every possible position. Pan is loose, engine is raised 3 inches. Seems to be hitting something internal in rear area that will not allow pan to come out. I seem to be missing something as it will not come out. Any suggestions or help? |

Re: 46 F/H oil pan removal
Are you sure all the bolts are out? There is a bolt at the rear that is somewhat difficult to locate. if the pan is dropping down a bit all the way around it is more likely hanging up on the oil baffles in the pan.

did you put a block of wood--10 to 12" long under the wishbone ball socket/frame if you did not do this the pan will not pull down and clear the pick up tube for the oil pump

Re: 46 F/H oil pan removal
Thank you both very much. I am 99% sure all the bolts are out. The pan seems loose, it feels more like an internal hang-up (baffles) as mentioned.
I am not quite sure I understand woodieman's comments so will have to look later today once back at the house. |

I remember I had to jack up my motor quite a ways to get the pan off, but that was an 8BA, pan was catching on the counterweights.
