Lucas Distributor II
Yesterday i bought a Lucas distributor at a Swapmeet, This is the first one ive seen with both mechanical and Vacum advance, I gave a couple with only mechanical. I guess its for a Ford Pilot, and they are not common here in Sweden.
This one have eight lobes, the Mechanical only have four lobes and can take a lot of revs, and i mean a lot :-) Anyway here is the pics if you are interrested in parts from the man that invented the "sudden, unexpected darkness" :-) Joseph Lucas. This is the ring that is missing, but i think i can take one from a US crab distributor. I think it was made month 4 in 1952 """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" This is the Mechanical only distributor. Four Lobe cam. Re: Lucas Distributor II
Yes, 99.9% sure that's a Pilot dizzy.
The 4 lobes are industrial. Caps are not interchangeable. Rotor arms are. Rotors are the weak spot they leak HT between the rivet and the spindle. Keep the resistance down in the leads and plug caps and it helps the rotors. These things wee designed to run with solid copper plug leads and brass connectors at the plugs. Very low resistance. 8 lobe points have narrow heels, 4 lobe points have wide heels. I think the industrial points plate and caps are also used on the magneto's. I have some dizzy remnants here, should be able to find those small parts you need. Mart. |

Re: Lucas Distributor II
For what it's worth, I believe the Pilot Shop Manual covers both versions of the Lucas as it gives some coverage to truck stuff.

Re: Lucas Distributor II
OK boys, I hope you can open this. With the help of my kids, I took a pic of the dizzy page from my Pilot parts book with my Samsung Galaxy mobile. You might even be able to read the part numbers. Manuel in Oz |

Re: Lucas Distributor II
The few parts that do not have an "E" in prefix like 18-2220 are American an so easy to get...The E parts are of couse Ford England only. Are there any good sources for that stuff??

Re: Lucas Distributor II
Why would you even want to use one with all those extra hard to find parts.Keep it simple like ford did.I guess you want bragging rights or something.Makes no sense to me at all. ken ct.

Re: Lucas Distributor II
Lucas condensers were good when new but the wax paper used to manfacture them deteriorates, especially with heat. That's where I always had problems with Lucas ignition components. Some times you get lucky though and find one you just can't kill.
Those distributors stick way out there too. On some engines, the fan won't let you use one. |
