Default 27 Coupe doorglass

A customer brought in his bottom door glass channels and some rubber to have glass cut and installed. this is a late '27 (#14,7xx,xxx) coupe. The rubber he wants to have us use is the same as A-79500 Windshield Frame Gasket 1926 - 1931, only cut into shorter strips. We would normally just use cork/rubber packing tape to put the channel on the glass .

I have not seen this type of bottom glass channel that has the "C" shaped lip in the outboard leg. I have no idea how the rubber he supplied is to be used in this application. Any suggestions or if this is even correct?

See the photos

Thanks, Phred

I don’t see how that would work.

I think it is a sweep or dam against the window opening bottom when the glass is up. I doubt it is meant to bed the glass. Someone will have the answer. If someone has a Steele or Snyder's catalogue they might find that part.

The round section of rubber is likely supposed to fit into the semi round bead and not above it if it is in fact made for that purpose. The tapered section of rubber could fit either way but I'd guess that it is supposed to go down into the channel to seal the channel and hold the glass more securely if it is actually for that purpose. Keeping rain water out of the door is important. Water getting into the glass channel would corrode it pretty quick in daily use where preservation is not considered. Setting tape is generally enough to do that. I have no idea about application. Maybe an owner of an application that uses this will know more.

I also tend to think the rubber may be for a sweep application. Lang's shows some sweeps like this for 23 to 27 closed cars. The glass channel for 1926/27 from Lang's looks different.

The door glass channel on my 27 Coupe is the correct channel.
This is the rubber for the 27 Coupe channel and the glass channel
