Free Up Key Mechanism on outside door handle
I took the out side door handle with the lock in it to a local locksmith and he said that the insides were corroded enough that he could not get it to turn or be able to put a key in enough to turn it. The handle looks great so I can still use it but I would like to be able to lock the car. It's from the passenger side of my '31 Town Sedan. Any ideas of how to get it cleaned out ?

I'd try a good penetrating oil. (NOT WD40, that's not good for lubricating things, only for cleaning things )
Thoroughly drench the insides in it and let it sit for a day or two, then try again. Eventually it should free up. |

Send it to Howard Denker in Omaha
The cylinders are fragile and normal locksmith will break them and render the cylinder useless. Post a pic of the front of the handle. Is it a Crown or B&S? Off a TS likely a B&S Do you have the correct key for it? |
