Default Helmet type distributor

I am trying to set the points on a 1934 helmet type distributor, I have the manual and the degree setting tool. The manual talks about Right hand points and left hand points... Is that as you look at it from the front? or as it sits on the car? so the driver side would be the left set of points?.
Thank you.

Driver side left side if it'd a USA car. A right front fender is a right front fender no matter where the car came from. Walt

Left or right are referred to as if you are sitting in the drivers seat.

Yep left is the drivers seat set.
Also the left set controls actual ignition timing and the right set controls coil build up or total dwell.....

Whenever I work on a Ford distributor I mark "R" and "L" on the breaker plate and draw an arrow showing direction of rotation on plate and on back of distributor with a Sharpy... this helps me avoid lysdexia based problems as I work on the thing and time it. Marks disappear with a quick blast of carb cleaner when all is done.

Now Walt, you are confusing me on this fender location. Is the right front fender on the left if you are facing the car or on the right. Or if you are in the back seat laying down where would it be. Or, if you were in the back seat laying down who cares where the damn fender is?

Thanks again guys, I got it all ready and have put the dist. back on the motor.
The motor runs as ruff and backfires as before, I guess i did not make things worse.. : ) also not better tho.. : /
I ordered a carburetor kit to see if that will help.
It runs on sometimes 4-6 or 8 cylinders, and backfires in the exhaust.
Any suggestions....?

If it's firing (and backfiring) at inappropriate times (like through the exhaust), it might be a very prudent time to go through and re-verify the correct firing order of your plug wires in general, and that the wires are inserted into the correct terminals at the distributor caps. DD
