Default 54 Mercury 256 oil return tub question

Anyone know where I can pick up the gaskets for the front of the oil return tube on a 256 engine shown in this photo lower left corner???
Part no. 6648 and 6643
It's the oil tube on the outside of the oil pan from the pump to the pan

I’ve got all kinds of gaskets I don’t recognize in my Yblock gasket sets. Maybe those, I know I’ve got a stack of small port manifold gaskets. Unfortunately, I’m 1600 miles away right now, and will be for a month. Maybe someone else can take a look and see what they’ve got left over. By the way, that’s the pickup tube, not the return. If you can edit the title it might help.

The site shows nothing for a 256 ENGINE.

Post Re: 54 Mercury 256 oil return tub question

Read the introductory page -

It will say in the index -

- 1954, 256 Merc, Truck 1954-55.......[572-3] -

If you go into it, it will show a blow-up of the complete engine overhaul gasket set with each gasket described and listed. I don't know if they sell the gaskets individually, you will have to call and ask.

There was a discussion recently @ y-blocksforum.com on this exact subject, that being the early two-piece tube and the later one piece. Maybe ask over there and someone will have the old gaskets setup (gasket sets come with both early and late style) and will mail them to you.

Did you get my PM regarding the center caps?

I believe I have the 6648 and if you have he size for the 6643 I probably got that too. I will check on the 6648

While I am not 100 % positive, I believe that all the Y Blocks used the same gaskets in that area.

Paul
I removed the pipe today. The diameter of the inside hole on the end of the pipe is 5/8"

Bob - I meant the size of the round gasket (6643) that your looking for. Inner and outer diameters, thickness (I realize that it may be compressed).

The hole has a ledge around it that the gasket sits on. The diameter of the gasket on the outside is 5/8". The gasket sits down into the hole slightly. Inner diameter would be 1/2"

Sent out the 6648 (2) out today. Also included a 6625 gasket which I
am sure you will need. The other gasket I don't have, but you might try an O Ring for it.

You owe me nothing. Just a few extra gaskets I had lying around and no use for as I have the one piece inlet tube in both of my YBlock cars. Just wish I had the other one you are looking for.

Actually, it is not. The one piece tube has the pickup attached to the tube and does not have the triangle piece where you have to attach the pick up. The pic shown is for a TBird which has a much shorter tube than a sedan.
