Can horn rod and steering wheel be easily removed from a sedan?
I am wondering if I can remove the horn rod and steering wheel from my '31 slant sedan, without removing the entire steering column from the car first.
I find the information in Les Andrews' Volume 1 red book confusing on this subject. On page 1-317 there are 2 somewhat conflicting statements: First it states: "To remove the horn rod and steering wheel from the closed car (coupe, sedan, or pickup) requires removing the entire steering column from the car." It then later states under a "NOTE" on that same page: "The head room in coupes and pickups is not sufficient to allow the removal of the horn rod and steering wheel." (This time, it does not mention the sedan!) So, can someone please tell me from experience, if I can remove the horn rod and steering wheel from a 31 Slant sedan without removing the steering column? Thank you very much! |

Yes the steering wheel and horn rod can be removed from a sedan without removing the column. Just dis.connect the column from the bracket inside the cab. The column will come down far enough for the horn rod to come out

I'm thinking you may also have to loosen the strg box mounting bolts. Others have said to be CAREFUL and not bend the horn rod ! ! !
