Default coil problem

Trying to post a picture of my new coil "position", to see if its the reason why it gets sooooo very hot and then quits. (Same with a new replacement.)

Even tho i'm not in physical shape to tackle my brake problem at the moment, i now know what i need to do.

So i'm trying to correct this other problem, (hopefully).

When these new coils crap out, i replace it with an OLDER one and that gets me home o.k.

Hope

Interesting place to mount a coil, but not sure in would increase the external heat to the coil. What coil are you using (ohms) and are you using a ballast resistor?

Mounting the coil up front nearer to the fan like Henry did surely couldn't hurt. DD

Try mounting the coil in front of the radiator. Just add a little wire and see what happens. Mount the condenser there too while you're at it.

I was thinking it would be easier and quicker to be sure the coil has the correct electrical setup first. Also, I didn't include in my first post what voltage are we dealing with, 6v or 12v?

If it gets really hot, might have too much voltage to coil.

What intake and carbs are you running?? Question has nothing to do with your problem. My coil is mounted similar to yours but more towards the front on a dual intake.

If you have the right ohm. coil you need it mounted on the firewall to keep the heat of the engine away from it. If it's a 6 volt system your ballast resistor could be the problem. Clean the contact surfaces on it, I had the same problem with my 41, it wouldn't start until it cooled off, cleaned the resistor and problem went away. the resistor is mounted under dash close to steering column, a fuse is mounted on same block. Hope this helps. Al

From the photo posted I would assume it would not be connected to the original ballast resistor. There is just too much missing information in the OP to really provide useful suggestions.

Your coil is mounted very near the exhaust crossover and air flow around it is restricted. Not good. If you can mount it in front off and away from the engine that would be beneficial.

I agree, mount the coil where it can get some air flow over it.
