Re: Lakeshore Drive (U.S. 41)
Just came through there, must have been rush hour somewhere. I lost about an hour going thru the city. Stop and roll, not even stop and go! Jim

Re: Lakeshore Drive (U.S. 41)
Paul, I'm glad to hear you didn't take some of that advice. Chicago's lake front is one of the most beautiful "front yards" of any major city in the United States.
Regarding Gary, the loss of the steel industry was the death of that area. US Steel alone must have employed 25,000 at one time. Couple that with the effect on all the other support industries and the "butcher, the baker, and the candlestick maker" and that's what you get. |

30ccpickup,
I was wondering about the tarp thingee, for lack of a better term, over your pickup bed. Is that canvas just tied over your bedposts? Just wondering, I would like a period type toneau cover on my 53 at some point. Looks liek you had a good trip. Jeff

What a great looking truck and a perfect day for a drive. I would love to do the same one day.

It is canvas. I bent/bowed some oak strips and attached them to a wooden frame and sat it on top of my stake bed. It is not water tight, but does prevent people from seeing what I am caring. If you would like, I can post pictures of the frame the next time I remove the tarp. I was more worried about the design somehow scratching the truck; therefore, less concerned of it being water tight. Paul

Re: Lakeshore Drive (U.S. 41)
Paul,
Sounds good. I would love to see them. I have to remember to look back here again, I usually hang out in the V8 forum. Thanks for getting back to me. Thanks again. Jeff

Re: Lakeshore Drive (U.S. 41)
we drove our Model As through Chicago on US41 at mid-day Saturday on the way to Oshkosh.
Lakeshore drive was blocked in one place because of the Chicago half-Marathon that morning. otherwise we mostly made great time on Lakeshore except for right downtown where the traffic lights are. Chi-town drivers were no crazier than the ones in Jacksonville or Tampa. an interesting experience, but once is enough......
