32 ford frame stamps
Hello,
I searched this topic and didn't find what I was looking for. I'm relatively new to posting a question so please excuse my ignorance. My question is simple. In 1932 if a Ford was a model B did the frame get a different stamp # than a model 18? I read where the # is located etc but no specifications on whether or not model B started with another number other than 18. Thank you much for your help. |

Re: 32 ford frame stamps
Model 18 was the V8 and "B" the 4 cyl,so yes the number began with a "B"- 5000000.Here is a pic from the DeAngeles book of the engine numbers.I added this after Mart's post to hopefully help.

Re: 32 ford frame stamps
First place I go to is here:
http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...ialnumbers.htm But I notice it doesn't list 4 cyl numbers. 4 cyl number info here: (32 stuff low down on the page). http://www.fordgarage.com/pages/ABenginenumbers.htm Mart. |

Re: 32 ford frame stamps
As ronn indicates, initially the prefix was 'AB', which was used until engine number 62,387 when the 'A' was eliminated from the prefix. (Engines destined for big truck chassis used ABB and BB prefixes in sequence with the rest of the fours. Those destined for RHD chassis had a 'F' added to the prefix, as in ABF, BF, ABBF, and BBF in sequence with the rest of the fours.)

Re: 32 ford frame stamps
It seems to depend on which RHD country the stamping took place. Of the examples I am aware of, the one South American RHD country of the period with assembly capability (Argentina) followed the Dearborn instructions and stamped them on the left side and I believe the United Kingdom-built RHD units were also stamped on the left side. The Commonwealth RHD countries which were Ford of Canada subsidiaries generally followed that instruction as well with Ford South Africa being a notable exception, at least some of the time, and there the stamping was on the right side of the vehicles that I've heard of.
Complete vehicle and SKD (slightly knocked down) kit vehicle exports from Canada and the U.S. to other RHD countries of the period such as Japan, Paraguay, Sweden and Uruguay, likely were also stamped on the left side. |

Re: 32 ford frame stamps
Believe also a CA if Canadian. Certainly later yrs anyway. Model A out.
The "I" was also a "1" stamp early. don't think the stamps changed till around? I could look it up. 6,9, and 1/I. ... Okay so, "the restorer" model a volume 56 - issue 1, has a editor question on stamp changes. Number change designs happened in February of 1931. Other sources say later but I'm going with this. Vanpelts has the change but not sure about the yr change. Great site. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...ialnumbers.htm Not relative to what you are asking, but... Re: 32 ford frame stamps
Can't say regarding Model A numbering, but Ford of Canada serialized its engines in relatively small batches (up to 10,000 in the case of V8s and up to 5,000 for fours) unlike Ford U.S. with each batch distinguished by another letter in the prefix as well as a 'C' leading off. For the subject '32 V8s, those were C18D and C18R and for the fours, CBG and CBQ. As with the U.S., an F was added for RHD.
