Question Clutch release fork assembly

A while back, I had a discussion with a friend about the proper orientation of the clutch release fork on it's shaft. In looking at the fork, one side of the fork tips is curved and machined smooth and the other side is kinda flat and a bit rough. I said that the machined surface goes toward the throw-out bearing or forward. He said the he has always put the other side toward the bearing and never had any trouble.
My logic says the that the motion of the fork is through an arc and the machines curved surface should be in contact with the bearing.
I looked in Les Andrews book and the subject is not even discussed nor illustrated. It probably never comes up because both orientations work and is not a problem. I just want it correct.
What say you guys?

Dick
