Default 1940 generator markings

My 1940 has a stock 6v generator with Ford AAR-10 stamped on the side near the field post. A local friend who owned the repair garage in town gave me a refurbished unit with Ford V-10 stamped in the same location. What is the significance of these marks? Merely model #s or do they refer to output strength or something else? Nice to have a 'new' spare.

I believe a 40 generator has a U to indicate 40 and the number after the letter is the month the generator was produced. If I am remembering this right, the V would indicate 41 and the 10 would be October. However, any generator from 40 to 48 would work if you add a ground wire. The 40 only has 1 post on the side later ones had 2, the second being for a ground.
Kube can tell you for sure on the markings.

Deuce is correct with the information he supplied.
It's possible to have a generator that was produced in 1939 ("T") but most likely it would have a month stamp between July ("7") and December ("12"). The generators produced in 1940 had a ("U") stamp and to be period correct, a month stamp between January ("1") and August ("8").
That "AAR-10" is most likely a rebuilder's identification. Regardless, your generator stamped with a ("V-10") was manufactured in October, 1941. Too late even for 1941 installation, this most likely would have been installed upon a 1942 model.

Thanks Deuce and Kube. Just nice to know what's on the car as I try to figure it all out.
