Default Laskey Trunk

I obtained a Laskey trunk for a real bargain, I think! I have attached some pictures! It is missing a center latch. It was manufactured in Newark, N J but the years considering cars it would fit, appear to end in maybe 1932. I have looked at a lot of vintage auto pictures and have not seen this trunk. I would appreciate anyone who has information in reviewing the pictures, to share anything on the trunk and company!

That's a great find. Hopefully it will fit either style of the A luggage racks, the one in the service bulletins or the repro style with slats.

Is that a replacement latch in the plastic bag hanging on the back of the trunk?
I have a reproduction latch like that, if you're interested

Good eyes on the latch! The latch was purchased by the seller of the trunk! It is not sturdy and is sized wrong. I have found something on ebay that may work. Thank you for responding with a repro latch offer!

I have now received feedback from two vintage trunk web pages, that both have quite a few brands with pictures! I have also contacted the the Newark, NJ library contact, who asked for some specific information, I sent it, but it appears. the vintage trunk files I found did not include the brand Laskey. And neither they or the Newark Library seem to have any traction on information. The company must have been in business and then out of business! Oh well.

Joseph B. Laskey first appeared in the Newark city directories in 1912, a partner in the firm Seaman & Laskey. By 1915, he had established his own firm, which remained in Newark until the late 1950s. I was not able to find the business in directories published after 1957.

Attached are pages from the city directories in 1912 (Seaman & Laskey) and 1955 (Laskey Brothers). I also attached a page from the 1920 city directory (ad for the Laskey business is at the bottom of the page). The final two attachments are from an ad that appeared in the Star-Ledger in 1947.
The company was located on Halsey Street for most of its existence. It was at 325 Halsey in 1920, and later moved to 337 Halsey.

My DHZIEMAN View....
My view of J. B. Laskey, has changed from someone who manufactured Auto Trunks of the day, to car upholstery and auto shop that simply had a brass plate added to various commercial Trunks he installed and the label was added not as the manufacturer of the trunk, but as the professional Installer. I may be off base but, nothing in any findings indicates a Laskey manufacturing company ever produced anything and everything points to servicing vehicles in all information found.

I wish to thank Tom Ankner, Librarian, of the Charles F. Cummings New Jersey Information Center, for his tireless efforts to dig out going all the way back to 1912.
