Rumble area rain gutter
Can anyone tell me when replacing the rain gutter on a standard coupe does the gutter get screwed to the back side of the lip of the rear quarter or to the inside of the lip? On this car it was replaced before and I believe wrongly. In the photo attached it looks like to me part of the old rain gutter has been left on the lip and needs to be removed before installing the new one.

Re: Rumble area rain gutter
That piece up in the top of the photo may also be what's left of the triangle brace that fits there along with either the rear trunk panel or the curved rear panel on rumble seat cars. The rain scupper channel fits on the visible side of the rear deck opening where it is facing a person that looks in there. It only extends far enough to drain at the rear so it may also be the leftover in that photo but it's hard to tell for certain.
The condition of the parts in the photo is not unusual. Corrosion affects areas like that the worst. Many of the replacement parts for back there are thinner gauge than original or not well shaped. A person has to do a lot of work to restore that area. Photos of original cars in that area help too. Last edited by rotorwrench; 11-21-2023 at 10:42 AM. |

Re: Rumble area rain gutter
Hello, working on the rumble seat area of my roadster now , the end of the rain gutter is to the outside of the triangle brace held on with a 1/4 20 flathead. Triangle piece fits behind the quarter panel and has some spot welds and 1/4 inch bolts attaching the back deck panel quarter panel and angle bracket together. Will try to take pictures Monday and post to make it clear. Also note that some of the nuts in this area a square type.
