Default top molding and other misc questions

quick question, My 17 year old son and i are semi restoring a 31 Slant window fordoor. we have the chassis complete now onto the body. His goal is a daily driver to school for his senior year, so we have a definite deadline. He is paying for most of the items he needs by either working around the shop, assembling distributor, or even horse trading so that should help to explain the budget.
I'm looking for some opinions on several things.

1) last night we removed the top molding. It came off straight enough that i feel we can reuse it (remember a 17 year old and a tight budget). the rubber insert in the molding that goes down the sides and across the back is hard as a rock. Any suggestions on how to remove that rubber while not destroying the moldings?

2) since it is a slant window there is very little wood in the body compared to a straight window car. So it seems that either Ford or somebody in the past stuffed cotton padding between the metal support pieces and the sheet metal body panels. the padding is pretty nasty (age, mice...) what do you think about using Great Stuff window and door foam to spray between the sheet metal and the supports. I say window and door as it doesn't expand as much as the other spray foams.
