Mallory Dual Point - What have I got?
Can anyone help me identify my latest swap meet bargain (!) YL?
Does anyone still stock the brown caps or is it back to swap meet? The mice have been at this one, although it will probably go again. Summit Racing the people to speak to for spares and the obvious bits missing? Hubbard? Thanks for your time Last edited by Juggler; 09-05-2010 at 05:22 PM. |

Yup - going electronic makes perfect sense, but I plan to do some VSCC events (trials/hillclimbs/sprints) and electronic ignition is a mod too far in their books.

They said that the Co. wants all of the old dist. out of circulation and offered a rebuilt billet type in exchange for $75.00. Not what I wanted but that was the best I could do, so now I have two that are too shiney, the one they sent was brand new. I looked at the shaft to see if I could make a new one but it would be to difficult. I don't know if a "B" shaft would work, there is a fellow that has those if needed. Check to see if the upper bushing can get oil, I modified mine for external oiling, my engines now are pressure oiled and oil flow to the dist. has been modified. I don't want to take any chances! Contact BUBBAS IGNITION, he can convert almost any distributor into a HEI unit. His rebuild and conversion services come highly recommended.

Re: Mallory Dual Point - What have I got?
Thanks all for your responses
Bill - Thought as much. So it's back to the swap meet. Given that for me it's one of the most fun parts of the hobby then no biggy. Steve - I feel your pain. I too am after the period look and really don't want shiney. I'll bear in mind what you say about oiling - hadn't considered that or even realized it was possible previously. Re: Mallory Dual Point - What have I got?
Juggler,
Your dist. is called a "double life " in Mallory's book, if you don't find a 4 banger cap, use a v/8 !...............callcoy, if you decide to make a new shaft make it out of " drill rod ", much tuffer than the stock, have some young guy at a local machine shop make it on his off time. If you send a GOOD working dist to Pertronic they will fix you up...they told me that. Dudley |

Too bad the brass condensers are split. That is very common. Those are hard to find not cracked.
I would recommend GMC Bubba also. He's extremely knowledgeable and can make that old dizzy sing! Refurbed and ready to run for $192 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...d.php?t=434157
