Default Foil balls for clearance

I have clayed the heads, (Navarro), on the 59L to get an idea of the clearance w/out the gasket. Now I plan to use foil balls to measure piston & valve clearance so I can measure it with a mike. How do you stick or keep the foil ball in place on the head, pistons or valves. Thank you Fordbarners.

Learned this from a Bonneville racer. Try using a small marble size ball of Bondo. Let set and harden. Slice the pancake in half, the cross section is your exact clearance. I’ve done it a few times.

If I got this right, the purpose of the foil balls is you can measure them with a mike after they are removed to get the actual clearance between parts. The clay gives you and indication only, and is more difficult to measure accurately.

I have complete confidence in the use of clay. I use Fimo craft clay that is plastic based material. I prefer it because you will not have the problem of the crushed material falling off when the head is removed. It's a real pain to have ten stick and two fall off and have to repeat the process.
