40 pickup rear fenders?
Does anyone supply good quality reproduction rear fenders (steel) for a '40 Ford pickup? Or... patch panels for same?

I agree with Skidmarks. Lots of new fiberglass available, but no new steel that I am aware of.

Re: 40 pickup rear fenders?
Steel fenders are not available. The only patch panels that I am aware of come from EMS. If someone would make those fenders customers would be standing in line. Once in a while you see fenders at swap meets, but they need tons of work. Makes me glad my 41 has real nice rear fenders.

Re: 40 pickup rear fenders?
The 3/4 and one ton fenders are not only bigger, but much narrower as well. There is a wheel housing or tub in the 8' box that doesn't exist on the 1/2 ton.

Re: 40 pickup rear fenders?
That is the difference. When the question was posed I should have been a little more detailed. I didn't want anyone to think they would bolt right up.

Re: 40 pickup rear fenders?
Re 1938-41 and 1942-47 1/2 ton pickup rear fender differences.
The fenders have the same basic shape (width, height, and length). The major difference is where the running board attaches. The 1938-41 running board is about 3" tall and the outside is flush with the outside of the fender. There is a notch on the front to match the mount flange profile of the running boards. The 1942-47 running board is about 1-1/2" tall and the outside of the running board is about 1" inside the outside profile of the fender. The fender is flared to transition to the running board, and there is no notch as the running board mount flange is at the bottom of the fender side to side. The 1938-41 right hand fender had a tire dimple, the 1942-47 did not. The shape of the inside of the fender between the running board and the bed is quite different, but who cares as you never see that on a finished truck anyway. The 1938-41 fenders can be cut down (on the inside) to fit the 1/2 ton panel. 1942-47 cannot as the panel fender was extended down in the back 1-2" relative to the pickup fender. Yes Martha, you can convert a 1942-47 pickup fender to a 1938-41, but why destroy a perfectly good original part when there a good fiberglass ones available (LOL). |
