Default 32 Roadster Interior Detail - Cowl Kick Panels

Hi,

I'm in the process of fitting my interior for my original steel bodied 32 roadster. I got a paper pattern from LB for a front carpet. I recognize that the original used a rubber mat and not carpet. I also have the kick panels from LB.

I have a couple of questions..

First

Does the carpet butt up against the bottom of the cowl kick panel or go underneath them? I think they butt on the bottom edge.

Second

Does the bottom front edge of the cowl kick panels go between the wood floorboards and the metal angle bracket or does it sit on top of the floorboards? The LB panels seen to be too tall to allow them to sit on top of the wood and under the dash lip.

The carpet/mat butts up against the installed cowl trim panel.

The cowl trim panel is inserted on the outer side of the angle bracket as labeled in your second photo.

I believe it will make more sense if you add the felt weather strips that were originally tacked on the sides of the floorboard (the bottom portion) and the cowl trim panels then fit down behind the felt strips to form a reasonably good seal against air entering the passenger compartment at that point.

Hi David, hoping you would respond!

I have felt on the bottom and will add it to the edges. One of the edges needs to be trimmed some to allow the panel to slide down there.

By the outer edge, do you mean the edge toward the car interior so that when installed you can't see the angle iron edge or the panel is supposed to be between the outside of the angle and the inside of the cowl?

Thanks for your help again!

Glenn

You're welcome!

The angle iron is exposed after the cowl trim panel is installed. In other words, the panel is slid in behind the edge. Otherwise it would be distorted in the process of inserting it outside of the felt weather strip.
