Default Different mount on Leaping Dog

Any idea what kind of leaper this is? I have not seen one mount this way before, but I think I like it better than the style that covers the back of the V8 ornament. Any idea on it's history or better yet, where to get one?

Neither are Ford Authorized Accessories. There were several different manufacturers back in the day, and even several more today.

Be nice to have the unauthorized one that just mounts to the back of the ornament.

Alan,

Only true in a U.S. context as a greyhound was a Ford item for '36s in Canada (note that it lacks the free-standing tail of the '34 dog and all of those Lincoln dogs of the period). Note also that it is the type that Steve is seeking.

David, my memory failed me. That subject did come up recently, and I'd forgotten the Canadian dog. Thanks for the reminder!

I have the 36 Ford Greyhound that mounts on the back of the ornament and it has a detached tail like 34 Ford originals. I do not know if it is a Canadian style or reproduction, but it will be in a case not on the car, since it is easy to break.

I believe that Steve has a greyhound made by Lincoln Mfg(see image) in the 30's and a repro greyhound made by Don Sommers in the 70's. The Canadian Greyhound offered by Ford of Canada may have been made by Stant Mfg (see image)

Thanks, any idea how the Stant dog mounted? Looks like a hole had to be drilled.

Very likely given that Stant was already a Ford supplier (gas caps and other radiator caps, including the '34 dog). Lincoln greyhound radiator caps of the period were made by Gorham, the silversmiths, in bronze.

What appears to be an excellent reproduction of the Stant '35-'36 greyhound is available from Don Sommers' American Arrow Corporation (www.americanarrowcorp.com) along with hundreds of others from the period. It is likely superior to the original in terms of material as it is made of stainless steel.

This is not my car, but the Greyhound is the same. Note mount on back requires a hole into the ornament and the detached tail.

Thanks, not too excited about drilling a hole in the V8 hood ornament.
