1931 Ford Ad

While doing some research on another subject, I ran across this 1931 ad in the archive of our local newspaper. In addition to the information contained within the "testimonials", it was interesting to me that bumpers were considered accessories.

By listing the bumpers as accessories Henry could post the car price lower than others.

I have some bills of sale that also list gas and oil extra.

now they just hide it under "dealer prep fees" and "documentation fees"

Yep, even in the 70's the tire for pickups was still an extra cost, so the boss had me install the cheapest General tire we stocked at the dealership.

Tom I worked in a Ford dealership in the mid 70's, and as I recall there was some kind of tire shortage. Ford was shipping cars with a rim but no spare. This was on full size LTD's and Mercury Marquis that didn't have a donut spare.

The owner was buying up tires and installing them at no cost for the customer.

Haven't thought about that in years.

Yeah, remember ordering my 1974 F150 4x4 and could still pick color, trim, extras like automatic trans., a/c, tire size and rims, towing package and waited six weeks for the delivery. Cost $5500....
