Default accessory cowl mount tool box 35-6

I have heard mention of an accessory cowl mounted tool box for 35/6 cars on the barn recently, and wondered if anyone has one for measurement purposes or perhaps some working drawings that would allow for a usable copy. I think one would be mighty handy and free up some trunk space.
Anyone??

Dunsford, I think it was, made such a box for 33-34, but I believe those were the only two years they made them. Not sure if they were an authorized Ford accessory.

Can't speak for the USA, but this Accessory Tool Box was offered as an option in Australia for the 1935 and 1936 Fords. It is vastly improved over the one that was offered for the 1933 and 1934 Fords. This one has pressing in the sides and the lid for added strength, while the earlier one missed out on the pressings.

Would such a tool box be available for a 1939 Pickup? With limited space under the seat ( My gas tank is there) it would be nice to have a useful authentic accessory like that.

These Under the Hood Tool Boxes are especially convenient for open cars. The only years that I believe they were offered are 1933/1934 and 1935/1936. I have one on my 1934 Ford Phaeton, and it comes in mighty handy.

Here is a picture of the 1933/1934 Ford Accessory Tool Box mounted in a 1934 Ford. As you can, it is a much simpler item than the better designed 1935/1936 Ford Accessory Tool Boxes. There are no strengthening ribs etc. in these earlier ones, nevertheless, it does serve the purpose and is very useful for storing smaller spare parts, tools and rags.

In my opinion the 33-34 style is more aesthetic with the bevelled edges as opposed to the 35-36 squared off version.

I wouldn't mind having one for 35-36 if it will fit a pickup.

I'm having a conversation with a local sheet metal fabricator about having some of these 35/6 cowl mount under hood tool boxes made and was wondering how much interest in having one there might be out there. I have dimensions that have been provided to me by "Brian" a Kiwi Barner. The boxes can be made of cold rolled steel for painting / powder coating or a polished (not mirror) stainless steel. My expectation is that the finished product to be identical to the box pictured in post#4 above here. Price will be stated after my fab guy determines the cost of pressing the stiffening panels that he will have to job out to another shop.
Those of you that may be interested can let me know with a pm, and when I have a more concrete figure I will notify you each separately.
If this all comes together I would expect to put them up in the "For Sale" section after the initial run.
He may be able to do the 33/4 variant also, but I don't have a set of dimensions for that model, yet.
If you are interested in having one for your 35/6 car send me a pm.
Thanks!

Battery is probably in the way.

Not sure on models after 33/34 but I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) the toolbox was an Aussie thing and I was lucky enough to get one made from an original. Keeps most of the spares out of behind the rear seat on a 33.

Kpar, I don't believe the cowl mounted tool box was unique to Australia. There were at least 2 manufacturers in the US.

For the record, here is an underhood picture of the "former" Mike Dingman 35 Ford Drauz cabriolet (German) I took this picture not specifically for the tool box (as you can see) but if you look close (Black makes it hard to see) it also has the underhood tool box.
