Default '29 Phaeton Folded Top Support Posts

The top support rods that come out of the rear quarter of each side of the body are loose. The passenger side is very loose!

I moved the rear seat and side panel out of the way and discovered that the nut in the bracket was not in place. https://photos.app.goo.gl/22zKPjyZQMr9kwda6

The next photo shows the nut in place. https://photos.app.goo.gl/8mV7cxiRPuSFXmrs9

It's not clear how the nut was held in place - tack weld? I need suggestions on how to fix the nut in place. The bracket that it is in is tack welded to the body in one place and otherwise held by several nuts and bolts in the wood supports.

I can probably break the weld and remove the bracket for repair, but would prefer to leave it in place for the repair.

What do you think?

I think you are referring to the internal top support brackets - correct? I am attaching a picture of the 2 brackets that were on the 29 phaeton I bought some time ago. Note that the brackets have a large D nut crimped into the brackets. You can weld the D nut in place if it is loose.

Exactly! I guess breaking the tack weld and removing the bracket is no big deal?

Thanks!
