GPS recharging on a 6 volt pos. ground Model A
I have recently purchased a Garmin Nuvi GPS and was told that I could recharge it on a conventional 6 volt positive ground battery without going to an inverter. Does anyone remember a thread on this subject and when it was posted OR has the info that can share with me? At least two people I talked to this weekend at the NE Meet told me that they have heard that it works. Your expertise would be appreciated----thanks

I am not sure that all Garmins will work on a 6v system, mine will. On the power cord for mine it states "5volt".
Just connect the center contact of the receptacle to the frame of your car if your car is positive ground. Connect the outside contact of the receptacle to a hot wire. |

Just my 2 cents! I carry a 12 volt battery booster, with a connection for a GPS or other devise, I would prefer to connect my GPS to the 6volt system, but don;t want to take a chance and screw-up my GPS.

While driving to Stockbridge last week, I just turned it on and heard what to do, then I would turn it off, then back on when a questionable turn appeared. I had no battery problem. I also pack a 12 volt $12 dry cell battery pack with a cigarette lighter jack if plan A doesn't work. I figure its good for a couple of years of occasional use. |

Some GPS units will work on a six volt system...my older Garmin was one that would not. went with a high output converter to work with all our different cell phones, etc also. used it this past weekend for our Model A day tour. worked just fine.
