Re: Ford transmission?
Looks like a 4 speed trans from behind a "G" model 6 cylinder ford.

Re: Ford transmission?
That cover on the side is for a optional PTO I believe. This is a super heavy duty trans that is good only for a work truck or tractor.

Re: Ford transmission?
Is that flange cast into the transmission? I have an H six and was recently given a 4 speed from a 52 V8 pickup. I never checked to see if they would mate up. I just assumed they would.

Re: Ford transmission?
After dinner I went down again to look at what I have. The six came with a stamped steel bellhousing that mates nicely with the block casting. The 52 trans has a circular bell flange that mates perfectly with the stamped steel bellhousing. It seems to me that the H type six does not require a transmission that is specific to the six cylinder engine. Perhaps the G type does. I found no info on Van Pelt's site about the 4 speed on a six.

Re: Ford transmission?
it sure is nice to have an inventory of "stuff" to look at when trying to educate yourself as to what year did it change, what fits what, and what will work best for this contraption i am building, etc. its like a library sort of. i am intending to move now that i retired this spring, and how much to keep, and what to move is a big dilemma.

Re: Ford transmission?
Here's that six with it's stamped bell when I added to my inventory a couple of years back. These were about 2 miles from my house. They were inherited by a friend when his father in law sold his farm and moved. The father in law was a knowledgeable ford guy and I was told he junked 14 other blocks, but kept these 'good ones'. Funny, that red six with the chrome head bolt covers has always intrigued me. It needed a ring gear but I finally got a brand new one.

Re: Ford transmission?
Those flat head sixes pop up every so often in a neat old hot rod. I have no experience with them, but they supposedly run pretty good. Speed stuff for them is as rare as rare gets.
