Electrical wiring diagram
I'm 85 and still cranking on my A.
Recently ordered a wiring diagram from Synders. Its colored coded and based on a 6v pos grd, So my 12v neg system needs a lot of adjust to the diagram to get the car to run right and not burn itself to the ground..already had fire in the wiring after ammeter posts insulation failed. So I have emailed out to Synders, Mikes and Bert's asking for input on changes to the diagram in consideration of volt/ground differences. I've gotten back good info and I think I've made all the necessary adjustments. Today I'm powering up all the adjusted wiring I've installed and am confident/fearful of the smoke/no smoke results. I wish I had some of you veterans nearby to give the car a once-over. Wish me luck.

Re: Electrical wiring diagram
Not a lot to it, really. To change polarity, swap posts on battery, ammeter and ignition coil; repolarize generator.
To change voltage, change battery, coil, lights, horn, wiper motor, cutout. |

Re: Electrical wiring diagram
12v neg grd. I'll assume you have an alternator. But that doesn't make much difference. You should not have burnt anything.
Its not hard to switch to 12v neg ground. The ammeter leads should not have burnt. It sounds as though they were grounded, loose, or, an aftermarket meter. There are wiring diagrams readily available right here. |

Re: Electrical wiring diagram
FYI the wires from alt to J box burned up and the ammeter needle is welded to it's case.

Re: Electrical wiring diagram
Sounds like something that should have been insulated wasn't.

Re: Electrical wiring diagram
There are other Model A owners in Pensacola, maybe they can give you a helping hand.
