Re: 39 Tranny troubles
I'm a happy man. I was regretting pulling the motor to get to the transmission. It's just time consuming.

Re: 39 Tranny troubles
The only ones I've ever seen are 3/8" NF, with a 9/16 head on them (this is on a 39 trans)

Re: 39 Tranny troubles
B&S, I think you are thinking of the UJ bolt. The conversation switched to the clamshell nuts.
FWIW I made some overlength nuts from some 5/8 hex stock. (actually wheel spacer parts) I also made some from some lug nuts. Just getting the head spaced away a bit helps the clearances. Ford Used 5/8 hex nuts which is a non preferred standard for 7/16 NF. 11/16 is "normal. Parting shot: I also took some M10 flange nuts which have a 15mm hex and put a 7/16 NF tap through them. They worked great on my roadster. I did those maybe 20 years ago. They are great because the flange makes them sit in the socket when you offer them up. Last edited by Mart; 06-17-2022 at 04:44 PM. |

Hey, that's good news! When I suggested you check that bolt it was the voice of experience talking. Well done. Terry

I'll be taking it out today for a spin. There's a fathers day car show in Tannersville NY my son and I are going to attend tomorrow. They shutdown the street and fill it with cars, not really a hot rod show, but we enjoy it and the weather looks like it will corporate. |
