Default Upper steering bush

I have seven tooth steering gear and would like to remove the upper bushing. The bush is not in the best of condition but the rest of the assembly is reasonable. The controls require new anti-rattle bushes and to be streightened. My question is what is the recommended method of removal, quickest, and the least destructive. Thank you all in advance for your help.

These are pot metal and have often swollen over the years. I removed the set screws, inverted the column after removing all the lower mechanics and control rods, and used a long 2" wooden dowel to tap the bushing out the top. I have also had to drill and cut them out. They can be difficult.

I have a 2 tooth and need to replace the upper bushing also.
My question is can I remove the column only and leave the steering box attached to the frame. Or do I need to loosen the entire column before I slide off the column?

On the 2 tooth you CAN remove the clamp directly above the two tooth box and thereby remove the tube. BUT you have to have room in your car to pull the tube/sector/spark-throttle levers upwards into the car.

Steering wheel is OFF of course. As would be the clamp attaching the column to the gas tank.

You might undo or remove the two bolts holding the two tooth box to the frame to allow the column to "lower" a bit to secure more space for the withdrawal.

At this point it makes sense to simply remove the whole column to the workbench - while there you can "touch up" the adjustment and remove some free play on the 2 tooth box. Floorboards have to be out for this, of course.

Do you have a car where the top folds down? Otherwise I'm not sure there is room to just slide the tube off.

I've done the same as Ray to remove the top bushing. I've also put a one foot long solid steel bar inside the column and shake it up and down to knock out the bushing.

Thanks to all who replied. It looks like I will have to remove the lower brass bush first then knock out the upper bush with a larger drift. Will give it a try and see what happens. Again many thanks to all....Great place this Barn for information!
