9 in clutch
Does any one make a kit with a diaphragm clutch to replace the 9 inch clutch.
Thanks Lawrie |

Didn't I give you an Auburn clutch? Absolutely the finest clutch you will find....

Re: 9 in clutch
Lawrie,
No idea where to get a 9" diaph. clutch but I will mention the 9" three finger clutch from VanPelt has performed flawlessly in my '32 pickup. 286 8BA , 3:78 rear. Charlie ny |

An early SBC diaphragm might be a bolt on.

Most diaphragm pressure plates cannot be used with our big flat-faced throw-out bearings - that big flat will hit the outer part of the fingers in a way the clutch was not meant to handle. Make sure you talk to the clutch manufacturer and talk about the throw-out bearing support/requirements for the clutch - before you buy it or put to use. |

Re: 9 in clutch
B&S>>>Be careful on putting a diaphragm clutch on . . . as there is usually an issue with the throw-out bearing not working correctly with the diaphragm fingers.
I can attest to what B&S wrote here. While the diaphragm worked OK, the 3-finger setup just felt a lot smoother & easier engaging with the old throwout. |

Re: 9 in clutch
G'Day Lawrie,
Have you tried Australian Clutch Services in Adelaide ?. The number is 08 8300 5000. They have helped me in the past with a diaphragm clutch that has the ends of the diaphragm "raised" to take flat faced throw out bearing . |

That sounds good too. If not too pricey. 8^) |

Now I just need to have the time to pull the engine and do the flywheel/clutch swap! |

Re: 9 in clutch
Should, can the 3 finger pressure plate be resurfaced?

Re: 9 in clutch
Centerforce manufactures products for the flathead but they are likely 10 or 10.4-inch types.
https://www.centerforce.com/products?car=54-1618-1951-0 If a person knows a good clutch rebuilder such as Fort Wayne Clutch, they should be able to set one up for any finger arrangement to match a particular throw out bearing. A lot of the diaphragm clutches have the Borg and Beck bolt pattern. I think some Mid 70s GM type clutch covers will bolt to an 8CM or EAC Mercury flywheel. The clutch builders likely know what fits what depending on engine and transmission application. |
