Default Brake Lights

Finally got Ol' Blue, 30 Fordor, out of storage on Friday, and went to our Annual Inspection Day with the club on Saturday. The car failed the inspection because the brake lights would not come on. In checking the wiring, both tail lights work, (the signals come on) so the wiring and bulbs are ok there. My third brake light in the rear window works, so I assume the brake switch is doing its job as well. My question is, could there be something wrong in the signal switch, that would stop the lights from working? The wire comes off the brake light switch, and goes into the signal body, and then back to the tail lights. Has anyone had a similar problem? Thanks for any help.... Jim

Yes, it is possible that the problem is in the turn signal switch if they are combined with the brake lights.

This is the prime reason I would keep the signals a seperate system and wiring harness from the factory lights. I think problems are less likely, and if a problem comes up, it's easier to check if it's a seperate system.

Plus you have the added benefit of the "freeway finger" with hand signals that you just dont get with the electronic versions.

Would that be the version for 'turning left', 'turning right' and 'turning nasty'.
