Nice Town car photo

Here are a couple of photos from the Whittington Gallery that caught my eye, a 29 AA being worked to death, and a really cool 31 Stand drive chassis.

These are my favorite images from the Whittington collection.

Dated 1933 you can see how quickly the top of the line Town Car fell out of favor and was relegated to just another car to be repurposed as a plumber's vehicle.

The original sales slip reads "Subject: Ford delivery, La Brea plumbing Vs. Melville; Client: Commercial Casualty, Mr. Lapic"

Didn't see any town cars. There are lots of photos of Fords but not a lot of the town car.

.... I don't understand how FORD could have expected people to want a 'limo' FORD, just one year after the Model T. People equated FORD with CHEAP, not LUXURY.

Look how the tow company added a 'standard' front right wheel to get it towed, as opposed to the other three wheels......

Could be even frugal 'rich people' of the time. I personally knew a car that was rather wealthy he could have afforded a Rolls Royce but instead drove a Crown Victoria (was too frugal to even have a Lincoln!)

I'd guess the bottles are at least 5 gallons each. At 8.34 pounds per gallon, that's 41.7 pounds - probably at least 45 pounds including the bottle. I count 27 spaces for bottles - presumably there are that many more on the driver side, so 54 total. That's almost 1-1/4 ton - yep, some weight.

Dunno if it's true but I've read the idea was the Ford would be a second car to take Mrs Millionaire shopping, on errands, etc while Mr had the Lincoln limo at the office. Poor sales led Ford to discontinue the TC. It might have done better if they held on a little longer - after the crash, rich folks still might have been able to afford a Ford limo. Course, even then, they might not have wanted to appear cheap - or they might not have wanted to appear still well off when others weren't.

Chuck, I believe those all are standard 19" Model-A wire wheels. The three large hub caps are aftermarket accessory hubcaps of the period.
