1932 Ford V8 Choke rod
I have a 1932 Ford V8 Choke rod. The rod has a flat as described in The 1932 Ford Book yet the escutcheon rotates around the rod. The escutcheon on the Throttle rod has a check ball to prevent the rod from rotating. Am I missing something?

Re: 1932 Ford V8 Choke rod
Tom
Initially the choke and throttle rods were just round as were the holes in the escutcheons that the rods pass through. The change to a partially half round cross section on the rod and in the escutcheon was made early one and it served two purposes. One was to create friction so the rod would stay put when you used either the choke or throttle rod and the other was to keep the lettering on the knobs horizontal |

Sorry for the delayed response. I thought the check ball in the throttle escutcheon prevented the rod from rotating. After close inspection I found that the escutcheon also has a flat formed at the exit tube of the escutcheon. In cross section it looks like the letter D. That flat rides on the flat section of the rod and it is this feature that prevents the rod from rotating. The choke rod escutcheon does not have the ball feature but it does have the flat formed into the exit tube. Sad to say that flat has worn away in my choke escutcheon allowing the rod to rotate. Lucky I have an extra throttle rod escutcheon I can reuse on the choke rod. |
