What would be required to swap a 59AB engine into a stock 33? Thanks

You will need these or the front of the engine will sit to low. Fan mount generator also. For sure radiator hoses.

Re: 59AB swap into a 33
In addition to the adapters Duece lover mentioned, I had to add a small spacer (3/4” I think) on top of the adapters to lift my engine up to allow me to remove and replace fan belt.
And that reminds me that you may need a crankshaft pulley with single seave (I cut off outer seave on mine to clear crossmember). This also means you’ll need to run a generator mounted mechanical fan. |

Just did it ; and had to buy a Red's header for the left side. Otherwise the advice is spot on, Steering box should be installed first also. Newc

The early Toyota steering box can be used for header clearance. I used one rim a 77 Toyota, I think, that waz along time ago,

here's what I did Used those horse shoe bits on the front engine mount, plus a small space ,I think 1/2 inch. used a turned down twin pulley,( cut the outer one off) turned down the crankshaft pulley bolt ,( turned the crank start dogs off) cut the front of the scatt crankshaft off to suit single pulley used my stock 33 manifold, carb and generator.and fuel pump used the 59a water pumps. Used my stock 33 distributor ,But fitted an 11A advance. used the hose kit from B/drakes. Used the stock 33 exhaust manifolds Nothing else needed changing It has been in for years, Lawrie Last edited by Lawrie; 11-15-2024 at 12:41 AM. Reason: spelling |

Re: 59AB swap into a 33
Pay attention to what Lawrie covered - is exactly what I did in my original 34 Ford. One thing to note is that he mentioned the 11A advance mechanism in the original distributor. If you're going to run the original distributor, this is really a smart way to go - the advance curve is much better than the original one.
Another option is to run a later 42' style 'crab distributor' (and 2 bolt timing cover) that already has the better advance mechanism. While the crab style distributor looks different than the original 'diver's helmet' style distributor, it is also a heck of a lot easier to work on. No matter what distributor you decide to run, have it gone through and setup by somebody who rebuilds them and runs them up on a distributor machine. Charlie NY or Michael at ThirdGen are two of the guys that I would use. |
