Question Is it my carb?

When on a trip today with our club. Car ran great, but towards the end of the day when I would be in first or second gear and try to accelerate it would act like I lost power and sputter and backfire some. Once I got into third I was ok. I opened up the GAV some and it seemed to resolve it, but it happened again a few more times on the way home. Is this carb related? Does it just need cleaned up or do you have other suggestions?

Thanks,
Neal

If it was backfiring out the muffler, then it’s probably electrical. Erratic power to points will let gas through the engine and into the exhaust. When it refires, it explodes in the exhaust.,

Check the gap on the ignition points, they may have closed up on you. As the rubbing block wears, the points close up. It throws the timing off. Re gap to .020, you don't need to re-set the timing.

Check the easy stuff first. A failing condenser can cause your experience, and so too can a frayed / broken wire under the distributor plate.
