Default I rebuilt the Holley 94 and test drive video

I've spent the last couple of weeks pulling the 7RT carb apart, cleaning it up and getting it back together. Like the rest of the truck, the carb had missing/incorrect parts, and some poor workmanship in general. I installed an oversize throttle shaft, #51 jets, leather accelerator pump, power valve (proper for Holley 94). The float hinge area was severely worn and the pin clearly the wrong size. I soldered up the hinge area and made a shaft, but I have new parts for that coming. Before tackling this project I seriously thought about buying one of the reproduction carbs (might still), also contacted charlie ny about rebuilding it for me, but I really enjoy the DIY aspect of the hobby and it's always good to "know" what's going on under the hood. It has a couple of "nearly" stripped threads that needs addressed also. I've got a lead on a couple of 94 bodys to take care of that. It's back on the truck and I'm surprised that it seems to be working pretty good. Oddly it doesn't miss when it cold, but after warming up good after a drive, it has a very consistent miss at idle. The engine is tired, I haven't checked compression or ignition system yet so I doubt the miss is carb related.

Lots to fix on this F1, At least it's drivable at this time, I'm not sure what to think about the miss after it warms up... maybe a sticky valve? It's got new oil in it now and some MMO, probably getting some run time on it is the best thing. It seems to be pulling good now, runs down the road at 50 no problem. We're getting better weather now, so it will get some miles on it.

A little slower with the shift lever, or put clutch all the way in, or double clutch to cut out the slight gear grinding.

Thanks Art. That was really fun riding along with you and I think it sounds great. Extra points for the DIY aspect as well!

I'm trying!
You'd think with my miles and miles of Model A driving, I'd be better. It is quite a different beast however. Plus, I've only put about 15 miles on it since it has a functional accelerator pump!

At least a doughnut flatford8

I haven't quite decided if I want to downshift before turning a sharp corner or coast around and then shift, I still haven't a good feel for it. The Model A's large flywheel takes a lot longer for rpms to drop, so once rev'ed for double clutching it gives a little longer "window of opportunity" to get into second.

Compression testing and new ignition parts are coming up next.

Its always interesting to ride along on another old Ford video. I find shifting down (if necessary) after making the turn works best.
