Default 40 convert coupe rear seat back rest

How does the rear seat back rest clip to the wood strip behind the seat, also does the back rest fit tight against the wood strip? Thanks for your help.

The backrest has bent tabs about 3/4 inch wide that slip over the wood strip and there are 3 screws that hold tabs at the bottom of the backrest to the floor where it kicks up vertical. You might see on the wood where they tabs have been.
There are holes in the well that the tabs just poke down through.

Thanks for your help, do you know if the backrest fits tight against the wood strip where the tabs slip over? My seat backrest hits the vac cylinder covers on each side before it reaches the wood strip but it will fit tight without too much effort. It just seems like a wear area for the upholstery.

Yes, the back of the springs sits tight against the wood piece that goes across the car. When you say the vacuum cyl covers do you mean the tin part or the wood at the top with the hole for the shaft that goes up to the mechanism? Are you sure you have the correct seat and backrest?

The back rest is correct, its hitting the tin part where the tin screws to the triangular wooden gusset at each end of the wood strip. If it would help maybe I could post a photo.

Photos are good. I see what you mean. On my car it isn't quite that tight but the sides and the backrest do touch. I would just either relieve the wood a tiny bit or massage the tin part to miss the edge of the backrest. I can't tell if the backrest is a remake but if it is, it's possible the new wood and the seat aren't exactly the right dimensions. That part of the tin gets covered so any rubbing would not be severe but you need room for the upholstry to fit in there too as it will be on both sides adding to the width of the backrest. It looks very close to what it should though. I think I see punch outs for the tabs that hold the backrest to the vertical wood piece.
Looks like you are doing a 1st class job. I haven't started on my 40 convert yet, am finishing up my 40 del woodie.

Thanks again for your help, I'm with you, I'll just rework the tin a bit for clearance.
