Powergen wiring help needed please
Guys I’ve installed a 36 wiring harness in my 35 roadster so I can use a 36 fuel gauge with 12-6 volt reducers.
My question is when hooking up the 12 v pos ground powergen alternator, should the Hotwire go straight to the fuse block under the dash as per original wiring(YB colour) or should I install a separate wire straight to the 35 starter switch, or both? Thanks Dan. |

Re: Powergen wiring help needed please
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe the '35 - '36 used a starter solenoid, which in that case will require cables, not wires.

Alan they use a starter switch on the floor, not a solenoid and dash button.

Re: Powergen wiring help needed please
Dan, I run a single wire alternator and run the hot wire as per the original.

Re: Powergen wiring help needed please
The stock 6 volt wire should be fine. 6 volt wiring (stock) is a larger gauge wire than needed for 12 volt.

Re: Powergen wiring help needed please
If you wire up the power wire for your alternator straight to the starter switch battery side then you will not get a charge showing on your dash ammeter as the original generator did. Regards, Kevin.

Re: Powergen wiring help needed please
Thanks Kevin, that’s how it used to be years ago, the auto electrician told me it wouldn’t work like original so he had the Hotwire going straight to the starter switch.
