Default Convertible sedan assists in 1939 flight record

Hi everyone. I discovered this photo and article. The pilot set a new flight endurance record of 30 continuous days in 1939. All fuel and supplies were “ hand delivered “ as shown. 3000 gallons of fuel used = 100 gallons/ day all passed up in drums from the convertible. Dan.

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/192965131527 Don't know anything about seller. 55,000 miles with no maintenance and 2700 gallons of fuel. Am I wrong thinking that it was getting around 20 miles per gallon? Anyone have an extended version or was there a book about it? I find the whole undertaking very interesting.
