Default Generator

Just a question, but how did the factory polarize generators on the assembly line? Theory is fine, in the numbers they were produced just baffles my mind.

I would think it was part of the generator test process---- probably a connection on each side of cutout, button pushed to energize fields, then run up and charge rate adjusted on 3 brush type

The Ford generators were manufactured by AUTOLITE. when completed they were test run in a test bench, connected positive to ground (which polarized them) and the third brush adjusted if they were pre 1939 generators. Then shipped to Ford assembly plants and ready for fitting on the line. The Ford dealers also adjusted the third brush setting during a service or pre delivery depending on summer or winter period or the type of use the car was subject to. Regards, Kevin.
