59A Date?
Would this be a date of the block on my 59A?

Re: 59A Date?
From what I have read at VanPelt’s site and elsewhere, any info on the meaning of the casting symbols from the foundry have been lost to history.

Re: 59A Date?
JayChicago, thanks, I had read that. Sure looks like it's a date but the block is a '42 Merc block so 7 2 46(8) would not be correct.

Re: 59A Date?
I have always thought those type of markings were related to the "shift" and somehow to the factory calendar date code the block was cast.

Re: 59A Date?
It COULD be, or a work shift, or a foundry worker code of some sort, or a foundry code for the particular iron's chemistry/make-up......WHO knows? Like others have said, NO ONE alive today has a clue as to what the majority of these lost casting marks refer to. DD |
