Re: 1940 dashboard
If you decide to honor Bob Gregorie you can use this as an example.
Here's another good thread about the 40 Ford dash. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=156788 Last edited by 19Fordy; 03-10-2021 at 12:04 PM. |

Re: 1940 dashboard
I tend to agree in that Gregorie got it right the first time.

Re: 1940 dashboard
The custom fan in me likes it. Was that wrapped or hydro-dipped

Re: 1940 dashboard
Thanks, the process is two colors of paint then clear. I used water base ppg. The first color is very light tan. Let it dry then spray a coat of dark walnut brown over the tan. While it is wet, lay a plastic shopping bag directly on the wet paint, then lift it off. Repeat the plastic bag application until you like it. I started with a sample part. With water base paint you can clean off the dark paint before it dries and try again.

Re: 1940 dashboard
What are your plans for the window garnish moldings, the same grain or a contrasting color?
Sounds like a good graining technique. Last edited by Zeke3; 03-11-2021 at 10:15 AM. Reason: added comment |

Re: 1940 dashboard
When someone restored my convertible in the '70's they painted the dash woodgrain. It reminds me of an old console radio.

While common sense might suggest they were optional, if you're seeking points on a judged concourse, I'd suggest you do not install them.
