Default Not many Moels A's at Barret Jackson

Last Tues (Jan 26th) I was at the Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale AZ. just to look around. There were 1510 cars to be auctioned throughout the week. I only saw two stock Model A's a 28 PU & a 29 sport cp. May have been more but that's all I saw. Lots of beautiful cars & big prices paid.

If you think of the dollar value of the average car sold at BJ, it's not surprising that few Model A's are listed --just too small of a value with the exception of very rare and high dollar A's.

there was a lot of eye candy and from what I saw on the computer without commercials and comments from talking heads (no cable or DTV) the prices were down from a few years ago when the average hemi was going for 300K one after another. I would like to go to see the offerings but feel that one would do much better price wise staying away from an arena where so many people with big wallets and bigger ego are bidding on vehicles. But it is amusing to see someone pay 99K for a Fiat Jolley. And with my limited budget there isn't much I could afford to buy without killing my retirement fund. A question, do they allow you to inspect the vehicles closely? When I purchase a vehicle I do a complete inspection and often include lift time to really inspect the underneath.

Depends on the auction.

In my limited experience, the review area cars are behind ropes or have "Don't Touch" signs, and the owners or representatives are nearby to answer questions. If you want to see underneath, you can ask the owner if you can crawl underneath it, and maybe they will approve. Seriously doubt they will let you jack it up or put it on a lift, if one was available.

It's turned into a Dog and Pony show anymore. I always record it so I can fast forward thru all the BS I'm not interested in. Have you noticed some of the commercial blocks are now 10 minutes??? I can't see wasting well over an hour each broadcast watching their commercials. DVR it if you can then skip past all of the un-interested stuff.

As usual Barret-Jackson put on a terrific display of idiots. That auction has been and remains stupid.

ronn is right and it IS all about the money nothing more nothing less.

The TV circus of auctions and 'pickers' has done nothing good for the hobby, only created a lot of trouble. For the true old car hobbyist.

Today's mind set thanks to Amer. Pickers and Gas Monkey Garage is 'How can I screw this poor schmuck, flip this car and make a big fast profit?' Look at me I'm the Man and that guy is a dope

The only TV car show I watch anymore is PhantomWorks at least they kinda restore old cars everything from Velies and Oaklands thru the 60's stuff. Fun to see what they do and most of it is restoration not street rodding per se.

next year to watch the auction without commercials or anything else just the cars and the bidding, watch it as a live stream on the internet @ barrett jackson.com all you have to do is register and you got it.. SO much better than on TV. It is amazing to see Mike Joy and the others walking around talking into a mike, and the only thing you hear is the auctioneer and comments about the car coming from the platform, no talking heads on the internet version

I am not aware of any auction or car dealership that will allow that extreme action. Wayne

It's like a BIG SCAM to empty out wallets. We'd be shocked f we knew all the PHONY BALONEY that went on! How many sales are REALLY made, as it appears? P.T.Barnum once said, "THERE'S A SUCKER BORN EVERY MINUTE"!
Even MOST TV is phony, just to sell advertising time for BIG BUCKS$$$$$$$$$$$

I was told 15% from both buyer and seller, that's big dollars on some of these cars. It also inflates the price on an average car, had a guy tell me his 67 Mustang was worth $50,000 because he saw it on BJ. His was a rusted out notch back and the car sold was a rare fast back.

Yep, not too many $50,000 to $200,000 A's out there. Oh, other than mine.

I am with Indiana A. Lover, I don't have time to watch television.

I do enjoy reading the auction results in the car mags, long after they are over. Someone in our local chapter of the V8 club summarizes the results and sends them out. That is worth a perusal. I saw a couple of DeSotos went for what I think is stupid money, but what in the heck do I know about late 50's DeSotos? The $88K the 1940 Ford Chassis went for seems ridiculous, too. You could buy a nice car for that kind of money.

If you don't watch it how can you possibly critique it! One of the highest viewed programs on television last week. If you ever attended one you would have a far different opinion. Some of the world's finest vehicles are viewed by millions and they can't all be dumb. Wayne

Add in selling the show to cable, a cut of the commercial revenue, and it makes one with they came up with the idea.
