Back Curtain Glass

Does anyone know the correct thickness of the glass in the back curtain on Deluxe Roadsters, 180A's or A400's? Any help would be great.

The print calls for 5/32" however the RG&JS calls for it to be approximately 3/32" - 3/16".

The Service Bulletin from May 1928 on glass dimensions appears to have a mis-print so that is confusing. For the open cars it shows 0.080"/0.187" but right next to it shows the Sport/Business Coupe rear glass at 0.080"/0.087" so this makes me think that range for the open cars is the same but mis-printed. The screws for the frames were pretty short so I know that a thick glass would need longer screws. The thickness of the top material is also a concern since it is pinched in there as well. I don't think that the frame dimensions changed much after February of 1928 so the glass thickness should have been the same through the end of production. Thicker glass would get pretty heavy so the thinner the better.

Reproduction frames may be different so I can't say much about them. My experience is with the original stamped steel type frames.

Thank you for all of the information. I am ordering glass for my project, what are thoughts on having trade marks on glass? The car is a 1931, but no trade marks appeared on any of the windows including windshield. I will be going with laminated glass all around. Trade marks do look nice.

Steve, in May of '31, laminated (safety) glass became an option. Few likely had it, -and only the laminated glass had the logo which was imprinted on the plastic prior to the two pieces of glass being laminated together.

If you are using this logoed laminated glass on your Conv. Sedan, then to be close to authentic looking, the edges of the door & ¼-glasses will also need to have the Black sealant on the perimeter of each glass.
