1936 Intake holes ID
What are these empty holes in my 1936 intake used for? Also the holes in both waterpumps and the two on the bellhousing. The number stamped on the bellhousing is 18 2761299, is it a babbit or insert block? Thanks, Art

Re: 1936 Intake holes ID
Intake: It's not the correct intake for a '36.
#1 and #2 are for vacuum lines. #3 and #4 are locating holes - there are dowels in the engine that correspond to these two holes. Plugged water pump is where the temperature sending unit probe is installed. One hole that is at the rear of the engine is for the oil pressure sending unit. The other would be for an (optional) oil filter line. Number stamped on the bell housing. No such thing. I assume you are referring to the number stamped atop the transmission case. That will not help you determine what engine you have there. It will only help you determine what year that transmission was originally installed. Does that number match the frame number?

Re: 1936 Intake holes ID
Thanks for that information. What vacuum lines go in 1&2? Yes the number on the top of the transmission case and frame match. Does that tell me if it is babbit or insert bearings? Art

Re: 1936 Intake holes ID
I believe the O/P has a truck. Does that make a difference in the intake manifold material?

Re: 1936 Intake holes ID
No.The cast iron one was generally used in commercial applications. Are they any letter stampings (LB)on the front deck of the block between the intake and the head?
Here is a '36 style aluminum intake. Last edited by deuce lover; 03-09-2022 at 12:34 PM. |

Who knows if the engine has been swapped?? It would be unusual if it hadn't.

Re: 1936 Intake holes ID
Is it correct that the 36 pickup would have the cast iron intake? Art

Nor should a '36 engine have cast iron cylinder heads.

Re: 1936 Intake holes ID
The engine number (or VIN) is independent of the type of main bearings the engine had when it was originally produced. In other words, the engines were numbered sequentially without regard to which type of bearing they had.
