There is (was) a kit available to install a 32-39 toploader in the A.

Yes, I am familiar with the Clings kit and am in the process of preparing a 39 trans. Although not a purist, if henry's b case will work that would be better. One fella wrote to say it would work with mods. I'm sure someone else must have gone down this road before......

I installed a B trans behind my A motor in a dry lakes style roadster that is under construction. You will need a B upper flywheel housing. A bottom cover will need to be made to cover the bottom of the exposed flywheel. I used one off of a B oil pan. You will also need to use a B or lightened flywheel. The wishbone will have to have a new mount made and you will also need a new mount for your pedals. I am not sure about the rear motor mount as the B housing mounting holes are different. I used a 32 K member for my rear mount.

Yes, you will need to make a new rear mount.

I used a rear A crossmember, turned upside down and bolted it in place. Angle iron tabs were welded to the "new" cross member for rubber pads to sit on. I used a rear bearing retainer/mount off an unknown year V8 trans.

p.s. You will have lost your petal assy. so I fabricated a mount and use a '39 assy. with hydraulic brakes. It has worked OK for 40+ years but may work on the clutch assy. as it causes flex when pushed.

You should check out some of the later mounts as they attach differently and might make it easier to fabricate a crossmember.

Will the A universal joint housing work with the later bearing retainer ?

Rear crossmember as in rear spring ? I saved a photo that had the angle iron brackets welded to the stock center crossmember (modified ? )
Can you believe I'm a FAST member !??

I was planning on using the misc components from Clings for pedals, wishbone etc. i purchased the float a motor B>A kit with later style front mount. I have '40 ford brakes to put on

Bert's Model A has the kit for installing the B transmission. Go to the end of the page at:

Thanks for the links ! my basic question is does/ will the A torque tube/cover bolt up directly to the end of the B transmission. I'm planning on using the floata motor rear mounts /brackets for the B block. Thanks again

I believe it will but you will have two extra bolt holes in the cover. Just use a V8 syyle cover with the A torque tube.

Thanks ! I'll start looking at that. the end of this trans has 6 tapped holes . so I figured the A cover would work
