Trying Something Different For Heat

As an experiment for a comfort heat source, I am installing 12V heated seat covers, one in the back seat and one on the front seat. If this works, I will install two more heated seat covers.
The covers are Sojoy Item SJ115R054, and they are equipped with a controller containing ON-OFF, High, Medium & Low heat, power indicator LED, a fuse and a power connector. Current draw is 2.6A and Max Power is 45W. My Model "A" has a 12V 60A Alternator.
Has anyone out there done this? If so, please share your experiences.

Interesting idea. You could also try more of a bench seat pad.

JWilliams, good thinking re the bench pad. If the pads I have work, I will use them on the front seats of my Victoria, and buy a heated bench seat pad for the rear seat.

depends on the quality of the seat covers, I guess.
we got one for the passenger seat in my 2000 Ranger truck and were not satisfied with the performance.

Unfortunately you are only getting your bum warm. Better to put in a hot water heater with a fan and get your whole body warm.

Second McMimmics suggestion. An alternative to manifold heaters with increased danger of carbon monoxide entering the car. Has worked well for us.

Thanks Brent. The bench seat heating pad arrived yesterday, so now I have enough heating pads for all of the seats in 190A.

No sense having a warm seat and frosted up windows unless you are just going to sit in the driveway !

This is an option I was thinking about on the speedster before building the seats. At my completion rate it'll be next winter before it becomes an issue.

Guys,

I had an Engineering professor that had a great idea to heat homes in the arctic that in a manner that would not affect the permafrost. They installed microwave generators in each room to just heat the people and not the building. It was quite "comfortable", until they learned of the radiation effects. The other side effect was that cutlery was at -50 F as spoon would stick to the inside of your mouth before it warmed up.

There is no way I am poking a hole through the firewalls of my Model A's for a manifold heater. I have the ram air heater through the floor boards in my Coupe, and it is inadequate but better than nothing. So I am going to have electric heated seat pads in my 190A that I can easily remove in warm weather. I will keep you all posted as I go.
