Mike's A Fordable has a slick one that you can see at their website, search for tool box.

Shame Mike's don't offer a better pic of that tool box, would probably sell more.
I know I wont order stuff any more unless I see it in the fleas or if there is a real nice set of pic's to convince me and I know exactly what will turn up in the mail. To his credit he does do a nice install instructions page. |

This is the box I purchased from Brattons, holds all my tools, extra fluids and is secure, plus I use it as a seat some times!

Re: Model A front tool box Pic
This is the one on my 28 CCPU. It was on it when I bought it and I don't know where he got it. Not a real good angle on the pic, but I hope this helps.

Re: Model A front tool box Pic
Here is what I did: Buy a $10 metal tool box, get some steel strapping around 0.060 thick and about 1 inch wide from Home Depot or Lowes, Bend the straps to wrap around the bumper braces, bolt them in place, no drilling on the braces, and make sure you have a flat surface formed by the two straps, on which to mount the tool box. Drill 4 holes in the tool box and mount it to the two straps of steel you formed. It sits right behind the bumper and still gives you room to use the crank. This is the low cost way of doing it. I can include pictures if you want, but they are all over the place, on many cars.

Here is some close up pictures of this tool box on my '30 Sport Coupe. It bolts on using the same mounts as the original pan below the radiator. You can't use the crank with this tool box.

Now I have something else to add to the wish list for my phaeton. Thanks for posting some photos I went to Mike's site early this morning and couldn't get a good view of how it looked and mounted.

Re: Model A front tool box Pic
I have a front toobox similar to Mikes and I wanted to use a crank so I cut a round hole in the back side about 1 1/4 dia and made a 2" dia plate to fit on the backside with a nut welded to it, and then made a disc for inside with a pilot turned on it . Then with a gasket on the back disc I put the inner piece in with a 1/4 scr. and tighten up. I cant use a lug wrench but a ratchet with a home made extension it works fine for turning over the engine.

Re: Model A front tool box Pic
Thanks Ed, I saw it for sale as Weekend special and wanted to see how it looked on a car between the front fenders before I made the purchase.

Re: Model A front tool box Pic
Two negative I've found with these is I had a hard time getting it to fit well with a stone guard and here in Arizona the black looses it's shine and no amount of wax will bring it back. Next to my shinny black fenders it looks like flat black primer. I'm assuming they are powder coated. I thought I read somewhere they had a model modified to fit with a stone guard but it may have been wishful thinking.
